Colloidal Systems in Drug Delivery
The goal of the Surface and Colloid Chemistry Group is to advance the knowledge of interactions of host defense peptides and nanomaterial carriers, with membranes and membrane components of cells and bacteria. Through this, as well as innovative approaches for performing such studies, the aim is to translate our research into further therapeutic development.

The Surface and Colloid Chemistry Group focuses its research on physicochemical aspects of drug delivery, particularly for amphiphilic host defense peptides and nanoparticulate delivery systems. For these systems, we employ a range of surface and colloid chemistry techniques, including ATR-FTIR, QCM-D, SAXS, and light scattering.
In addition, we have expanded our research to include neutron scattering, mainly neutron reflection but also SANS, e.g., for studies of the interactions of amphiphilic peptides and nanoparticulate delivery systems with model lipid membranes. Such physicochemical studies are matched with biological experiments so that key structural and dynamic issues determining the biological performance of systems can be elucidated.
