Hyperspectral imaging as a part of pharmaceutical product design

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingBook chapterResearchpeer-review

Imaging is getting an important element of the modern drug development process. Different hyperspectral imaging tools can provide in-depth understanding of complex pharmaceutical products including not only phenomena captured by the laboratory-based off-line instruments but also increasingly tools capable of fulfilling the process analytical measurement scenarios. Information related to spatial distribution of the components in pharmaceutical products can be explored using infrared, near-infrared, Raman, and ultraviolet mapping, as well as using RGB imaging. These tools are generally accepted by the regulatory bodies, and at the same time, they are becoming a natural part of drug development process. In the future, hyperspectral imaging will be a key enabling part of the continuously operating production systems.
