My current research is concerned with formulation of low solubility drugs by evaluating amorphous solid dispersions in terms of their physical stability and oral bioavailability enhancing performance. This includes several techniques for characterization and involves different in vitro dissolution/permeation models as well as in vivo PK studies.
The focus during my PhD was on low permeability drugs, e.g. peptides, and the concept of increasing oral bioavailability by the use of microfabricated devices capable of unidirectional release of drug and excipients, e.g. permeation enhancers, to the absorptive barrier of the intestine.
