WHO Collaborating Centre for the Patient Perspective in Medicine Use Redesignated

Lou and Susanne.

The WHO has redesignated the WHO Collaborating Centre for the Patient Perspective in Medicine Use for a new four-year term covering 2026–2030.

The redesignation recognizes the Centre’s continued contribution to advancing patient-centered approaches in medicine use, pharmaceutical policy, and public engagement across the WHO European Region.

During the next four years, colleagues from the Social and Clinical Pharmacy Research Group, together with partners from Nordic and Baltic countries and in collaboration with the International Network of WHO Collaborating Centres in Pharmaceutical Policy, will contribute to WHO activities through the following terms of reference:

  1. Supporting, at the request of WHO, people-centred antimicrobial stewardship policies to promote appropriate antibiotic use in the WHO European Region.
  2. Assisting WHO in enhancing trust, health literacy, and informed decision-making on medicines among patients and the public in the WHO European Region.
  3. Supporting WHO in strengthening citizen engagement and meaningful participation in pharmaceutical policy from marketing authorization onwards.

The redesignation highlights the importance of interdisciplinary and international collaboration in addressing current and future challenges related to medicine use, public trust, and patient participation in healthcare systems.

The Centre looks forward to continuing its close collaboration with WHO and international partners to strengthen patient perspectives and promote equitable, evidence-informed, and people-centred pharmaceutical policies across the region.
