Mingshi Yang, our new Professor of Translational Drug Delivery Engineering
As of May 1, Mingshi Yang is Professor of Translational Drug Delivery Engineering at Department of Pharmacy.
Here, he is part of the Pharmaceuticals, Processes and Products research group, a group that has focus on research into safe and efficient design, formulation, and manufacturing of medicinal products, often related to personalised medicine.
What is the focus for your current research?
“My current research is centered on translational pharmaceutical drug delivery engineering, with a particularly strong focus on inhaled therapies for lung diseases and a secondary but substantial line in advanced biomaterials for wound healing/regenerative medicine”.
Which current projects or collaborations are you part of?
“I am currently leading and collaborating on several translational research initiatives spanning academia and industry, including funded projects on inhaled nanoformulations for combating respiratory biofilm infections, RNA therapeutics for asthma and pulmonary fibrosis, and smart inhaler technologies developed with industrial partners. The collaborations involve interdisciplinary partnerships with microbiologists, PBPK modelling experts, international academic institutions, and pharmaceutical companies to accelerate the clinical translation of advanced drug delivery systems”.
What are your visions for your future research?
“My vision for future research is to advance translatable, next-generation drug delivery systems through the integration of particle engineering, mechanistic understanding, and data-driven modelling. My ambition is to develop smart inhaled therapies for major respiratory diseases, including antimicrobial-resistant infections, pulmonary fibrosis, and asthma, while expanding biomaterial-based solutions for wound healing. This research will emphasize clinical translation and interdisciplinary collaboration to accelerate the development of impactful therapeutic solutions”.
