Official opening of ESS Lighthouse

Pharma Collaboration

On September 18, the ESS Lighthouse: Colloids and Interfaces in Food and Pharma (CaIFF) was officially inaugurated with an inspiring event here at Pharma.

Research Director and Principal Investigator Professor Martin Malmsten.
Research Director and Principal Investigator of CaIFF Professor Martin Malmsten.

CaIFF focuses on out-of-equilibrium multi-phase colloidal systems, their investigation with large-scale neutron- and synchrotron methods, and their application in pharmaceutical and food products.

CaIFF is a collaboration between UCPH and Aarhus University with backing from the Technical University of Denmark, the University of Southern Denmark, Lund University, the European Spallation Source, and by pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, food industries, and the Danish healthcare sector.

After a welcome by Research Director Professor Martin Malmsten, Vice-Dean for Research at SCIENCE Lise Arleth and Vice-Dean for Research Hans Bräuner at SUND gave an introduction to the UCPH perspectives on the subject.

Head of Department Jukka Rantanen talked about the hopes and expectations at IF as a hosting department. Later talks were by Jan Skov Pedersen from Aarhus University on neutrons in food research, Federica Sebastiani on neutrons in pharmaceutical research, and Hanna Wacklin from European Spallation Source in Lund talked about ESS’ Interplay with academic initiatives. Nikolaj Zangenberg from Danish Technological Institute gave the talk “Solving industrial challenges using large-scale facilities” and Jakob Øster from the Capital Region of Denmark talked about large-scale facilities in healthcare research.
