Lauritz Brorsen wins AI Award for innovative skin cancer project

Diagnosing skin cancer during consultation

The project explores the use of Laser-Assisted Rapid Evaporative Ionisation Mass Spectrometry (LA-REIMS) combined with AI to enable real-time recognition of skin cancer during surgery, allowing for accurate and fast treatment. This approach has the potential to improve surgical outcomes while reducing waiting times and easing the pressure on healthcare systems.

The award comes with a prize of DKK 10,000.

Lauritz Brorsen is currently a postdoc here at the Department of Pharmacy, in Professor Bjarne Styrishave’s group Toxicology and Drug Metabolism with concurrent affiliations at Department of Dermatology, Bispebjerg Hospital and Danish Research Center for Skin Cancer.

Lundbeck Foundation and the Danish Cancer Society supported the project, which was supervised by Catharina Lerche, Christian Janfelt, Merete Hædersdal and Zoltan Takats.

Department of Clinical Pharmacology at Bispebjerg and Espen Solem Jimenez organized the symposium, and the Novo Nordisk Foundation sponsored the event and the award.
