Generation and characterization of a human in vitro stem cell model
of the blood-brain barrier
The scientific objective of this project is to generate in vitro models by using endothelial cells derived from human stem cells. The overall properties shall resemble the healthy blood brain barrier in vivo. This will be accomplished by characterizing and optimizing co-cultures of the endothelial cells derived from human stem cells, with glia cells like astrocytes and pericytes. A comparison will be performed with data obtained from a bovine in vitro model co-cultured with astrocytes as well as other results from literature.
