I am a lawyer who graduated from the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez, Chile (LL.B.), and the Universiteit Leiden, the Netherlands, with an Advanced LL.M. in Law and Digital Technologies. Currently, I am developing doctoral studies at the Faculty of Law of the University of Copenhagen as a PhD fellow at CECS (Center for European and Comparative Legal Studies). My research topic is the study of the new regulatory framework emerging at the EU level to address disinformation on social media platforms during electoral periods. In addition to my project, I teach the "Human Rights, Democracy and Digital Technology" course.

The PhD project positions itself at the intersection of two broad but interconnected themes in the disinformation ecosystem. On the one hand, it centres its attention on the changes brought by Social Media Platforms ("SMPs") in the way we consume information during democratic events, mainly the role played by these actors as an accelerator in the spread of disinformation and the negative impact this peril has on societal values, democracy, and citizens' fundamental rights (the problem). On the other hand, and as a result of the increasing interest of different stakeholders in regulating this phenomenon, this work jumps to the study of the legal challenges of addressing disinformation and the new regulatory framework emerging in the EU at the regional level as a reaction, which will be the core subject of this thesis (the response).
