Analysis of the conformation and mechanism of membrane proteins

Insight into the dynamic conformation and interactions of membrane proteins is the gateway to understanding much of cellular life and the action of the majority of drugs. Such lipid-associated membrane proteins are however notoriously difficult to study by traditional methods for structural analysis. We are applying an alternative analytical approach that combines native-like nanoscale lipid model systems with HDX-MS experimentation. We apply this novel strategy to interrogate the conformation, interactions and mechanistic details of several “difficult” membrane proteins in collaboration with leading groups in the membrane protein field.
